Automotives Sector

"South African automotive manufacturers have to adjust to the green economy if they are to survive.” (South African Automotive Week (SAAW), East London – August 2011)

Since the first IPAP launched in 2007/2008, the automotive production sector has been identified as a critical segment of the economy. As South Africa’s leading manufacturing industry, the sector contributed 6.2% of the country’s more than R2 660 billion GDP in 2010. About 103 000 people are employed in the manufacture of vehicles and components with a further 200 000 employed in the retail and repair areas.
