First ever Eco-Logic Business Green Economy Initiative Award winners announced!

South Africa’s top eco-champions were showcased at the Eco-Logic Awards 2015/16 on 21 April, at a “glamourously green” awards evening at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town. The NCPC-SA partnered with the Eco-Logic Awards to support the Business Green Economy Initiative Award, a new category introduced to recognise business organisations that provide a product, service or programme that supports the growth of the green economy in South Africa. The first winner in the category was GreenFin Financial Services

The Business Green Economy Initiative Award attracted an impressive calibre of entries. Winners, GreenFin Financial Services, were lauded for their initiatives for making “going green” affordable to all, by providing alternative and affordable payment options for acquiring solar installations to households.  In 2015, their financing enabled more than 100 households to contribute towards a carbon saving of over 550,000 kWH.

Woolworths Good Business Journey won silver and Locomute won the bronze.
Ndivhuho Raphulu, NCPC-SA director, who handed over the award, said that the NCPC-SA was very proud to support the Eco-Logic Green Business Economy Award, and applauded businesses that promote the transition to a green economy.  “The green economy is not just a green issue.  It allows for industrial development and economic growth in a manner that is environmentally sustainable”, said Raphulu.
Founder and CEO of GreenFin, Tiaan de Jager, was very excited, especially since the company is relatively new. “My biggest challenge is accessing enough funding to make money available for larger projects such as solar PV for shopping malls. I am sure that this award will help open new doors. Many thanks to the NCPC-SA for their support in making this award possible,” he said at the post announcement interview.

“The work that so many South Africans are doing to create a more sustainable environment and inspiring,” said David Parry-Davies, editor of the Enviropaedia and convener of the Eco-Logic Awards. “This year’s competition was a clear demonstration of how eco-logic thinking is now entering in the mainstream.”

Other categories included energy efficiency, water conservation, green municipality, eco-community and individual awards. Details of all the award categories and winners are on the Eco-Logic website
