Industrial Energy Efficiency Project in South Africa
In the past five years, the Industrial Energy Efficiency Project (IEE Project) in South Africa has assisted industry to achieve energy savings worth over R 1.54 billion.
This has been achieved through the promotion and implementation of Energy Management Systems (EnMS) and Energy Systems Optimisation (ESO) in over 384 companies.
The project is implemented by the NCPC-SA, in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). Participation options range from three-day audits for small and medium-sized enterprises to becoming host or demonstration plants where IEE Project experts will implement measurable savings to demonstrate results.
The IEE Project in South Africa was the first of its kind, developing from concept to implementation over five years – and has served as an international pilot project. Similar projects are operational through UNIDO in 16 other developing countries worldwide.
